RV Wheel Nut Torque ...

09/10/10

On a new unit, or every time a wheel is removed for any reason, the torque on the wheel nuts should be checked after 10 miles, then again after fifty miles and once again after 100 miles of travel.
Wheel nuts on a travel trailer are normally torqued to 90 foot pounds but may differ with different axle brands. The wheel nut torque on a large Class a may go up to 245 ft/lbs. Check your owners manual!

The torque may be set correctly at the factory, or at the dealership, but after a few miles of travel, things "settle in" and wheel nuts may come loose. I know this from experience! Check that wheel nut torque - the 5 minutes it takes to check may prevent a serious problem.
